| Minneapolis is city in the eastern part of the state of Minnesota. On the Mississippi River, with a population of about 390,000 the city is the forty-eighth largest in the United States. Over three and half million residents live in the MSA are of Minneapolis. Although settled since the 1600s, the city was not formed until 1867. The city has a reputation for cold weather and the lowest recorded temperature was -41 degrees. Summer however are quite comfortable and Minneapolis area is filled with recreation areas. Many large companies and corporations have a presence in the Minneapolis area including Xcel Energy, Target, PepsiAmericas, Graco, Wells Fargo, ING Group, Coloplast, Valspar, and U.S. Bancorp. Local sports teams include baseball's Minnesota Twins, NFL football's Minnesota Vikings, basketball's NBA Minnesota Timberwolves and WNBA Minnesota Lynx. Local higher education institutions include the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis College of Art and Design, North Central University, Capella University, Minneapolis Community and Techical College, and Art Institutes International Minnesota. |
